SEAN FRANCIS FOUNDATION

The foundation is named for a member of the Minnesota film, TV and commercial production community who was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2000. He was a young man on the verge of starting his adult life. Sean had just moved to Los Angeles and was working as a production assistant on the New Line feature film project, “Blow.”  He had worked on several features shot in Minnesota including “Mighty Ducks,” “A Simple Plan” and “Herman, USA.” He was very well-liked in the film community and had dreams of becoming a film producer some day.

FOUNDATION GOALS

The Sean Francis Foundation is 501(c) 3 corporation, with the following goals:

MISSION

To mentor young people in the craft of filmmaking as well as provide an opportunity for the experienced professional to develop new filmmaking skills.

VISION

To hold a competition which that allows filmmakers to create media projects (e.g. public service announcements, print campaigns) to educate and benefit the public about timely issues.

KEY OBJECTIVES

  • To serve underserved audiences "in the public interest"
  • To allow people who have a passion for a cause to create a concept and have it produced free of bias
  • To reward excellence in creativity
  • To nurture the program so that it can rejuvenate itself financially and creatively
  • To partner with film schools to give young people an opportunity to work with professional film and TV crews
  • To provide a legacy for a young man that was inspired by the film industry
